The Dumbing Down of American Christianity

Our pulpits and pews have been dumbed down to the point where there is no scriptural discernment. We either do not know what the Bible says or we do not care what it says. Many will take exception to that statement while others that it is pointed straight at will think nothing of it. Obviously, if a person doesn’t care what the Bible says, then there will be no quarrel with the statement that we don’t know or don’t care what the Bible says. Mainly with this statement I am addressing the dumbing down of “Christians”. We as Christians do not know or care what the Bible says.

How do I know this, and how can such a statement be made? Have you seen “Christian” TV lately? There are more wacked out nut jobs running loose on Christian TV than there are in Hollywood. Some of the largest growing churches are full of people who would say they love the Lord and that scripture is the infallible Word of God. That sounds good, doesn’t it. I’m right there with you, if you believe that.

However, we have many churches, again some of the largest in the land, full of people that place a higher priority and even a higher attention to modern day prophets. In other words if a prophecy is blatantly off line with scripture and teaches something foreign to scripture, the prophecy is then called a “new wind” where God is blowing us.  Meanwhile these same people claim scripture to be the infallible Word of God.

Relying on prophetic utterances that deny scripture and calling it a “new move of God” is absolute rubbish and makes God out to be a liar.  God says in scripture, concerning His person-hood,

I am the LORD, I change not.

If we believe what God said in Malachi 3:6, then we must take Him at His word and the liars then are the phony prophets.  One such prophetess is Stacey Campbell, who along with other false prophecies once prophesied over Todd Bentley that Bentley would be would be

‘first fruits’ of a generation that would walk both in the anointing and the glory of God.

This prophecy was given before Bentley’s unscriptural divorce from his wife.  So much for Bentley being first fruits while sowing wild oats.  To explain that it wasn’t the prophecy that was wrong but the way Bentley finished the race, Campbell said,

I prophesied publicly on GodTV that Todd Bentley would be a “first fruits” of a generation that would walk both in the anointing and the glory of God. I would like to acknowledge, that although Todd Bentley began his ministry this way, he has not finished his race this way.

So a supposed God given prophecy depends on the actions of the person over which the prophet is prophesying? God is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.  God knows my beginning and he knows my end.  He knows Todd Bentley’s beginning and he knows how his life will end.   Bentley’s affair and subsequent divorce did not catch God by surprise.  This wouldn’t have caught a true prophet of God by surprise either.  But still people flock to see this woman “prophesy”.  Some might just want to see if she’ll make her head spin.  I know I keep expecting it to myself.  Below is her “prophecy” over Todd Bentley.  Her head doesn’t spin in this video, but I think she could do it if she tried.

This is just one example of one such “prophetess” or “prophet”.  After being discredited by their false words, these modern day hucksters don’t miss a beat or lose their audience.  Their defenders come out of the woodwork and proclaim how they feel when this prophet or that preacher speaks.  But what about the false prophecies?  It doesn’t matter because of the way the speaker makes the audience feel.

In much the same way preachers who proclaim a false gospel are held up as examples of being lead by the Holy Spirit to new knowledge.  Let me say that the Bible was completed two thousand years ago.  If something is newer than that, it is too new to be true.

Exit Observation:  If God is going to heal our land, Christ’s church must repent of its evil ways of setting up people as higher authorities than scripture.  Revival will not come to a church that is full of itself and so proud of its supposed good fruit.  The church might appear to some to be burning hot with the fuel of new experience, but it is lukewarm and even cool to the truth of scripture.  It resembles the  Philadelphian  church in Revelation 3.

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Two of the things to worry about are the heaathclre law (ObamaCare) amd Medicare. For some strange reason Romney and Ryan get away with their claim to be saving Medicare while changing it drastically. And then they promise to repeal and replace ObamaCare. I think most people kind of like the idea that insurance companies spend premiums on the medical care of the insured. Most people think it is wrong for them to deny insurance or to cap benefits if you get sick so repeal is a big mistake. As to replace, what will it be replaced with and how many years (if ever) will that take.
